Rolesville Secures $3.8M for Sports Facilities

February 19, 2026 — The Town of Rolesville has been awarded $3.8 million in Wake County Hospitality Tax funding to support the construction of athletic fields at The Farm Athletic Complex. The funding is part of a broader $23.5 million county investment in sports, arts, and cultural projects designed to expand tourism, recreation, and community amenities across Wake County.

The Farm Athletic Complex project will provide additional athletic field space to accommodate local recreation programs while also positioning Rolesville to host regional tournaments and events. These improvements are expected to enhance the quality of life for residents, support economic development, and attract visitors to the community.

The funding approved by Wake County Commissioners will go towards building 5 soccer/multipurpose fields and the associated amenities, such as bathrooms, concession stands, parking, and more.

Town leaders view this investment as an important step in preparing for Rolesville’s continued growth while strengthening opportunities for recreation, tourism, and community engagement. The new fields will complement existing parks and facilities and help meet increasing demand for athletic programming in the area.

Countywide, hospitality tax investments are intended to expand facilities, attract visitors, and support local businesses while enhancing cultural, sports, and entertainment opportunities for residents.

More information about the countywide funding approvals can be found on the Wake County website.

First Affordable Housing Project in Rolesville Moves Forward

At the September 2, 2025, Board of Commissioners meeting, Commissioners decided to work with Habitat for Humanity of Wake County on the town's first affordable housing project.

The future project will be built on 6.48 acres of Town-owned land located at 4950 Burlington Mills Road.

This is Habitat for Humanity's first project in Rolesville. The organization has finished projects in every other Wake County municipality to date.

The Town and Habitat will work together over the next few months on a development agreement for the property, as well as determine the site layout and number of homes.

On June 16, 2025, at approximately 10:34 a.m., Rolesville Police responded to a subject who was trespassing at 418 S. Main Street, the Shell gas station.

When the Walk for Peace traveled through Rolesville, snow and inclement weather added an unexpected challenge to an already complex, multi-jurisdictional communications effort. As the Town's communications lead, I coordinated messaging with neighboring jurisdictions and developed the digital content strategy to keep residents informed about the Walk's route, timing, changing weather conditions, and potential impacts. I balanced timely public information with community-centered storytelling, highlighting Rolesville's place in a larger regional event while adapting communications as conditions changed.

Results

The campaign generated strong engagement across channels, with social media content receiving more than 2,000 likes, comments, and shares. The Town's newsletter, reaching more than 8,000 subscribers, achieved an 88% open rate and 75% click rate, demonstrating significant community interest in timely updates surrounding the event.

The campaign was crafted by me in the Fall of 2024. After meeting with multiple residents, I found many didn’t know all the unique amenities within town limits.

I decided to partner with the town’s Parks Superintendent to highlight all the unique places residents can explore within town limits. This was my first campaign I launched as the town’s Communications Specialist.

The goal was simple: highlight all the unique areas in town that residents may not know about while bringing the town’s history to light. I would post pictures of a spot and have residents guess where the spot was located. The next day, I would post the answer with additional background information.

The results were instant. The first post alone drove up engagement by 75%, and residents where excited to guess the location. It got 19 likes, 9 comments and 1 share. For a page that hadn’t had any likes on a post in four months, this was a huge improvement.

I continued the campaign for about a year. It boosted engagement, views, likes, and shares up by 56% in that time, and residents shared photos with me later of exploring the locations.
